Ardrossan Castle 4 v 4 Kilmarnock Town
Saturday 10th November 2012
Castle entertained struggling Kilmarnock town on saturday hoping to secure the 3 points that would have lifted them to third in the table. They started the match reasonably well and were twice denied one on one opportunities when the referee inexplicably brought play back to award them free kicks in their own half when donovan was in on the keeper on both occasions. Castle took the lead on 25 when McBreen curled an excellent free kick into the top corner from 25 yards. Town were struggling to get out their own half by now and it was no surprise when Castle doubled their lead on 34 minutes when a low McBreen corner was slotted home by Keane. The turning point arrived on 42 minutes when Addie gave away a free kick on the right and the Town striker reacted angrily, headbutting the defender and recieving a straight red card. Killie however scored from the resulting free kick and that was the cue for some of the Castle players to go into hiding. At the start of the second half castle struggled to cope with the 10 men and Town deservedly drew level on 55 minutes when a harmless looking cross was spilled by the keeper leaving the striker with a tap in. Town went ahead on 66 when Castles lack of pace in defence was horribly exposed. An aimless punt forward into the castle half was was chased down down by a town forward and despite giving the defence a 30 yard start he reaced the ball first and squared the ball to the on rushing midfielder who gave the keeper no chance. Town were then reduced to 9 men soon after when their midfielder got a second yellow. Castle took advantage by scoring 2 quick goals. First Donovan finished calmly when through on the keeper. Scorer then turned provider when he crossed for Brookes to smash the ball into the corner of the net. The 9 men drew themselves level on 88 minutes when castle gifted possesion under no pressure and were punished when the striker finished low past the keeper. Undoubtedly 2 points thrown away by Castle and their shocking lack of fight, composure and pace is an ongoing concern.
